Topic: Development of Video Exposure Monitoring (VEM) Systems and Training Program to Prevent Worker Exposure to Hazardous Agents Video Exposure Monitoring (VEM) is the process of real-time recording of sensor data and video footage and synchronizing and encrypting the two signals together. (This is different than the NIOSH EVADE program that stitches video and sensor data after the fact). Then when playing the VEM system data back, it is easier to identify exposure sources and means of control. This is especially useful when comparing outcomes with Government or User defined standards. Dr. McGlothlin will show case study examples showing the utility and efficiency of VEM, and present the latest version of his VEM system to this audience. Speaker: Dr. James McGlothlin, M.P.H., Ph. D., C.P.E. FAIHADr. McGlothlin is a fixture and leader in the professional and academic world of Ergonomics and Industrial Hygiene, starting his career in 1977 as an Industrial Hygiene Environmental Consultant to the Navy, and airline and quarry clients in Hawaii. His career evolved, receiving his Ph.D. in 1988 from the University of Michigan, and is Professor Emeritus of Health Sciences in the College of Health and Human Sciences at Purdue University, where he taught and conducted research in occupational ergonomics, industrial hygiene, and public health. He was the developer and course director of the popular Occupational Safety and Ergonomics, and Principles of Public Health Science courses. He was recognized as a distinguished faculty scholar and retired as Professor Emeritus in the summer of 2015.
He started his career in CDC NIOSH in May 1978 as a US Public Health Services Officer, performing Health Hazard Evaluations and Technical Assistance projects, he was the chief of the Accident Analysis Section, and Senior Ergonomics researcher in the Engineering Control Technology Branch in Cincinnati, OH.
